Is it a sign of the future being here that at least two of the things in tech news today seem like April fools to me? Drones for Amazon deliveries and “SmartWigs”… It IS December, right? #g

Huge. “This year, rather than stopping midway through to wash your hands and type in a search, you can just speak to your laptop: ‘Ok Google, how many ounces are in one cup?’” #g

Just noticed that 4sq now asks clever questions about a venue as you check in. Good stuff. #g

Looks like app.net is picking up a bit of speed, I see familiar faces.
Will be posting the links I share on Google+ over there, IFTTT of course has a nice recipe for that. Now to familiarise myself with the notification settings… Oh joy, another one. #g

Backlink analysis 101 - how to review your website for incoming links…
This is a good overview of what it means to do a “backlink analysis” on a website. Number of inbound links to a website (how many other sites link to yours) is still an important factor for ranking well in search engines.
There are a number of tools available that makes this a straight forward task. Checking which sites link to yours, to which specific pages, and what words they use in their link texts, can teach you a lot about what on your website / in your business is deemed important and link worthy by others.
If you have never done this for your website, try it out using Open Site Explorer following the instructions in this post. You never know what you might find. #g

The sweet people @ParallelsMac just made me very happy…
Some time ago I had to buy a license of Parallels Desktop for Mac, version 8, to run a Windows software and (shudder) Outlook. Sensations of daze and confusion aside, Parallels is an impressive piece of kit.
Today I received an email saying they just released version 9. My first thought was obviously “Dagnammit, I bought 8 just a few days ago, and just missed out on the latest version…!”
To my great surprise, and joy, the email went on to tell me that since I bought version 8 such a short while ago my purchase was covered by their Tech Guarantee so I received the upgrade for free!
Good job. I am now an even happier customer. #g

Pet restaurant gripes that ruin the appetite
I agree with all of these, perhaps especially the one on websites…:
"These are almost universally awful: clubby music, "clever" flash animation ("please wait while we load" … Next!), the chef’s "philosophy", stock photography of random food and a lot of waffling about seasonal and local gleaned from watching Gordon’s Kitchen Nightmares. Even worse are those designed for Continental Big Names whose idea of fun is making you chase the cursor around a tableau of dancing hams. All I is want is the menu with prices, maybe some nice photos of the interior, opening hours and contact details. How hard can it be? Almost impossible, apparently." #g

Would you trust this face…?
More novel payment methods, this one a face recognition system from Finland. I think it’s fair to say that the face of payment really is changing. #g
